The most highly anticipated game of Round 5 is certainly Kamsky v. Nakamura. Emil Sutovsky and Jennifer Shahade are kicking off the commentary by discussing some metrics that might give us an idea of who might come out on top in this game.
"For a real chess lover, it's not just the outcome of the game," that matters, notes Sutovsky.
Sutovsky discusses that Nakamura tends to not play Russian openings because they would be too revealing of his intentions, but that if it's the strongest play, he will play it.
Shahade seems to think Nakamura might not have been expecting this opening, as he's thinking how to advance the opening.
Another game with some local interest is Charles Lawton and Doug Eckert. They have played together in years past, and Lawton mentored Eckert (originally from St. Louis) briefly. Eckert has been out of tournament play for quite a while, so Lawton may be looking toward this game as the light at the end of the tunnel.
Lawton mentioned, coming into the club early, that he varied his routine nightly study by going to see the X-Men Wolverine movie last night. We'll
check in with that game later.
