Some time ago I
wrote an e-mail to Bill Hall, the Executive Director of the USCF. ICC's
Macauley Peterson commented to that article expressing several reservations regarding the content of the said e-mail. I think the general reception of the e-mail by the public was that I was simply trying to gain media attention for my blog by throwing dirt on Bill Hall and the USCF. This is most likely the reason that I have not received (and may never receive) a response to that e-mail. I can certainly understand the hesitation. It seems as though most chess-related organizations are under the constant barrage of hecklers. My e-mail was likely written off as simply one of those and "file thirteened"(trashed).
That brings me to the point of this blog post ...
yesterday I got a call from the current vice president of the Kentucky Chess Association (Daniel Brennan) and he expressed his desire to reunite all of the state because there has been a great divide between Lexington and Louisville for many years. I support him fully in this but I'm not certain how to go about the effort. As the Vice President Daniel's job will mainly be to produce the association's newsletters. He has asked me to help with any ideas for the state newletter and I'm forwarding that idea to ALL my readers. What is the best sort of content for a chess organization newsletter, website, or blog? Does a given organization in your thoughts (FIDE, USCF, KCA, whatever applies to you) even need to improve in any of these areas? Vent a grievance if you must but try to propose solutions and be constructive.
These questions apply to all types of organizations in chess and it is this that I'd like to see comments on.
