Well, there goes the neighborhood. Rybka has become a part of the chessbase family of chess engines (fritz, shredder, and now Rybka). In a way I'm happy because the distribution of the strongest engine on the market is now going to multiply ... which is good. However, the bad news is likely to be that its cost will double, its development will stall, and the ideas behind the program will be cannibalized into the next generation of Fritz and Shredder.
Those are my concerns with this announcement by chessbase (and
Susan's Blog).
We'll see if I'm prophetic after a few months of marketting by chessbase.
