I spent the first day of my personal Chess Bootcamp reviewing five of the best chess books in my collection and trying to reawaken my tactical sharpness through review.
The books I had previously read and reviewed on Day One are:
"Art of Attack in Chess" by Vladimir Vukovic
"Think Like a Grandmaster" by Alexander Kotov
"Winning Chess: How To See Three Moves Ahead" by Irving Chernev & Fred Reinfeld
"Chess" a huge book of problems by Laszlo Polgar
and last but not least ....
"How To Reassess Your Chess" by Jeremy Silman
These books aren't really written to be tackled in one day so if you haven't read them before they won't make a good review. Instead I recommend reading each one thoroughly first. Then simply flipping from chaoter to chapter for review during a Boot Camp situation. If I had to restrict you to just one of these books go with the Chernev book. The goal of Day One is to reawaken tactical sharpness to bring you back in shape for a tournament .... Chernev explores all the common means of tactical victory fork, skewer, and yes, the pin.
I'm on Day two now ... see you later!
