wandering around chessblogland I came across
an article from GM Joel posted to Chess Life Online. Now, I'm not a fan of Black's side of the Ruy Lopez but I read this article because White's side in the Ruy is my primary weapon. I've never been tempted to try Qf3 against Bb7 and it seems dangerous. As white I would simply avoid this line altogether. (if you're too lazy to click-through to the article I'll provide the line I recommend here:
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Ba4 Nf6 5.0–0 Be7 6.Re1 b5 7.Bb3 0–0 8.c3 d5 9.exd5 Nxd5 10.Nxe5 Nxe5 11.Rxe5 Bb7 12.d4
I may patronize the lazy studier by posting this line ... but if you miss out on Joel's article or play the line I recommend without thinking first ... you're in trouble in your chess studies.
You're no doubt asking now why I think this article on the Marshall Gambit is so important. The answer is that thought provoking analysis is always memorable and every idea in chess is adaptable. You may never play the Marshall or against it but the ideas in this article are just another bullet in your gun that you can whip out at high noon.
